Nitro Mega Prayer US Tour 2006
New footage surfaces after 20 years
In the spring of 2006, Nitro Mega Prayer went on an ambitious tour of the East Coast USA with Balboa, following the release of their split CD.
March 14 Philadelphia, PA @ WKDU Radio LIVE ON-AIR
March 15 Richmond, VA @ The Raygun
March 16 Newark, DE @ Perkins Student Center
March 17 Philadelphia, PA @ Be Happy House
March 18 Williamsburg, NY @ The Trash Bar
March 20 Allston, MA @ Regeneration Records & Tattoo
There isn’t much footage of this tour, or any of the shows. Nitro Mega Prayer’s bassist Matsu posted this tour diary:
But recently, I was searching for a video from Gauge Means Nothing and found a full show from Nitro Mega Prayer’s Richmond show!
The Gauge Means Nothing cover was especially a surprise! Ponchi (guitarist on the right) played guitar for GMN and wrote several songs on their EP. When he moved back to Kobe (from Tokyo), he quite GMN and joined Nitro Mega Prayer.
Nitro Mega Prayer’s Songs Of Hypocrisy feature a few tracks written by Ponchi. I’m guessing he joined in the middle of the writing for that EP. Some of the tracks still share a lot of DNA with NMP’s former sound.
But the split with Balboa is where Ponchi really took over and pushed Nitro Mega Prayer’s sound to new heights. Tbh, the final incarnation of NMP is top-tier Japanese screamo. The inventiveness and futuristic sound has stood the test of time. I really regret we didn’t get to see the band develop this sound more.
If you haven’t listened to it recently (or ever) you deserve to hear this again:
Also, looks like CD’s are still available from the label! And only $3!!!! What are you waiting for??
